FCE & CAE preparation (15 hours)

Course overview

Cambridge English: First (FCE) and Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) are internationally-recognised English language qualifications that students can use as proof of their level of achievement in learning English.

A FCE qualification proves you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or study on courses taught in English.

A CAE qualification demonstrates that you can follow an academic course at university levels, communicate effectively at a managerial and professional level, and express yourself with a high level of fluency.

For more information on each qualification, please visit: http://www.cambridgeenglish.org/exams-and-tests

You will have 15 hours per week of exam preparation lessons. The exams focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking so this will be the main focus of the classes. Students will also look at past exams and complete practice  tests. Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation will be included in the lessons as aids for the other skills.

Please note that we require a minimum number of 3 students per class/level to open a course.

Students 16 and 17

Please note that Connect only accepts students who are aged 16+. Students who are aged 16 or 17 will not receive a junior course level of supervision and will be in classes with students who are aged 18+. Students and their parents/guardians should consider this before they enrol on any course.

Pre-test

If you decide to take an FCE or CAE preparation course, you will need to take a pre-test to decide if you have the appropriate level of English to join the course. For the FCE, you will need to have at least a level of upper intermediate English (B2+) and for CAE, at least a level of upper intermediate English (C1+).

If your pre-test is successful, you will be booked on your chosen course. However, enrolment on the course still depends on your performance in the placement test, which you take at the academy on arrival.

Please contact us to request the pre-test before booking your course.

Connect English Academy is not a test centre and only provides preparation courses. The exam itself can be taken at a separate test centre in the centre of Cardiff. We are happy to advise the students on where to take the exam and to help complete the application form, but students need to book and pay the exam centre directly. The exam usually needs to be booked at least one month in advance. Information about exam dates can be found here:
