Hello, my name is Gareth and I am a teacher at Connect International English Academy and I am really happy to work at such a wonderful place. Everyone here is very friendly and the academy really makes every effort to improve students' learning.
I have been teaching for over four years now, and am very passionate about English language teaching and learning new ways to get students participating in fun and creative English classes.
I have lived in five different countries and on three different continents, including the Marshall Islands in the remote Pacific Ocean, Italy and Greece. I believe that these experiences have helped to shape me into a better teacher and person.
I think learning English should be fun and engaging and be focused on improving problematic areas. They don't have to be mutually exclusive and they shouldn't. Come and learn English with us, you won't regret it, it's a terrific place.
I have always had a love of English and the arts since childhood. I started teaching English as a foreign language in 2003 by moving to Guangdong province in China to teach school children English which was a very rewarding and valuable experience. Upon returning to the UK I gained further qualifications in English Language teaching notably the CELTA accredited from Cambridge University. I have taught at British Council accredited schools in Cardiff being promoted in 2009 to Business Development Manager while working at one Cardiff language school. This mean that I had the opportunity to travel to meet agents in countries such as; UAE, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, China and Italy. I also developed the English Language section for Swansea Metropolitan University from 2009-2011 which saw me also periodically teaching the International Foundation Year.
2012 saw me move to Dubai to become country manager for a reputable English language college that have around 350 schools worldwide. I was also lucky enough to learn conversational Arabic whilst working. In my spare time I like to read about History and the arts especially enjoying The Tudor Period. In 2013 I also studied in a make up artistry course at college and still enjoy "making up" friends and family in my free time.
I have been working in the field of education for over twenty years and have taught pupils of all ages (from 4 to 64 years old), from Beginner to Advanced.
I have worked with students from all over the world, as an EFL, Primary and Special Needs Teacher. I especially enjoy teaching Academic and Literary English, helping pupils develop and refine their creative and essay writing skills, and am a published author and illustrator.
